The first stop of this tour is Trakoscan castle, which is the most representative castle in Croatia. It is also one of the few that managed to preserve its interior as it was during the last renovation by its original owner – the Drašković family. The castle itself is from the 14th century, one of the oldest ones in Croatia. Since that time it managed to preserve a lot of its original look. It was renovated in the 19th century, which was one of the first renovation procedure of such calibre in Croatia. The renovation is done in a German renaissance style, reminding to a degree of some popular European castles. It is situated amidst the mountainous hills and a beautiful lake.
3
After that we go to see Vinica castle, built in the 19th century by the Bombelles family. Interestingly the same family made a huge park around it, which is now one of the biggest of the three arboretums in Croatia. The castle is a half-ruin now, but an enchanting place to see. The arboretum itself hosts some marvellous trees as well as a rare 19th century pool.
4
The third castle that we will see will be the Old Town castle in Varazdin, made by a powerful Erdody family, who came to Croatia from Hungary. The castle is said to have been built in the 13th century, but its present look is from the renovation done in the 16th century. Inside is a museum with furniture and various items that belonged to the aristocratic family of Erdody. Optional lunch and walk through Varazdin, to get a feel of the old capital of Croatia.
4
Seeing Varazdin and the last castle, we go back to Zagreb. Arrival time is predicted by the early evening hours.
