This is a whole day trip from Zagreb to the capital of Slovenia, Ljubljana, and as well to another Slovenian jewel, a town on the lake called Bled, and the nearby Vintgar gorge. These destinations are some of the most attractive ones in Slovenia, especially if you prefer light to moderate activity.
This tour starts with a visit to the Vintgar gorge – a canyon through which passes a beautiful Radovna river. It was discovered in the late 19th century, and because it was impassable, the special trail has been set up to enjoy the 1.5 kilometer of amazing scenery – a play of dreamlike scape of canyon and the gushing sound of pure, yet strong, Radovna river.
The second stop is a town called Bled, where the Bled lake is. The lake is a famous attraction on a European scale, and for a good reason! It is a glacier lake, clean, pure, and in the summer months inviting to jump in. On the lake is an island with a 17th century Catholic church of Assumption, built where used to be an ancient Slavic temple dedicated to goddess Živa. Visiting the island in a traditional wooden boat called Pletna is a must if weather is good. From the island there are great views of the Bled castle on the hill above the lake (known as the oldest castle in Slovenia), of the Kamniske Alps in the background, and of the activities happening on the lake itself!
The final destination on this trip is Ljubljana. After arriving to Slovenian capital, exploration of its city center ensues. You will see sites such as Presern square, Cobbler’s bridge, Triple bridge, Robba’s fountain, Cathedral of St. Nicholas, the Market, and the Dragon statue. Ljubljana is a gorgeous town, compact, with Ljubljanica river flowing through it. The architect Joze Plecnik gave Ljubljana the new look in the early 20th century, making it very attractive to visitors. Most of the buildings are in Viennese secession style, and some are in Art Nouveau and Baroque style of architecture.
Depending on weather or traffic condition, we may reverse the order of visiting the places in the itinerary.
Return to Zagreb is in the evening hours.
